In Italy 24-mega watt solar power plant is going to be build by Norwegian solar energy firm REC, said by Norwegian solar energy firm REC today on 3rd of February 2011.
In Lazio the construction has been started already and 100,000 REC solar modules will be used.
In a statement Company told that, “The solar power plant will generate electricity about 37 million kWh. This about of electricity is sufficient for requirements of 14,000 homes”.
On Wednesday it was announced by REC that the results of it 4th quarter will be better that anticipated.

13-kilowatt solar photovoltaic array system installation has been completed by Xcel Energy (based in Minneapolis) at P.R. Leyva Middle School in Carlsbad. In the New Mexico Community Solar program (started in 2009) this is the 4th project of the Xcel Energy.
In four southeastern and eastern New Mexico communities Xcel Energy has built solar devices to make people aware of advantages of solar Power. In Roswell, Hobbs and Clovis other projects have been developed.
Ben Jaime the Manager for Community and Economic Development at Xcel Energy, said the solar panels at Leyva Middle School is developed in the courtyard of the school besides shop building and these Solar panels are generating electricity for power grid in the area.

For living a normal life, Afghanistan people are helped by Solar Power light as they are heaving well little street light at night.
For the first time in year, people of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, are enjoying the Solar Power street lights as 28 new solar powered street lightning’s are installed in the city by US engineers, and it has given a feeling of security in the city.
For the event a ribbon-cutting ceremony was marked and it has signalled the banging of 2 more solar power street lightning projects in the Afghanistan Engineering District-North’s Commander’s Emergency Response Program, or CERP, The project is similar to the project of year 2009 in Zabul province of 140 solar powered lights.
Kabul deputy mayor Abdul Ahad Wahid said that, “I know that this will have a positive impact. The moment we started lighting the road, people were extremely happy. There were like ‘wow we are living in a real city”.

Now scientists have invented a plastic solar cell by using new energy technologies that can turn solar power into electrical energy, even on a cloudy day when their is no sunlight.

The Maryland Transit Administration awarded Pepco Energy Services Inc. a 15-year, $6.2 million contract to help reduce the agency’s energy will install a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic array at its Northwest Bus Division.
Pepco will install lighting retrofits, occupancy sensors and control panels to reduce the MTA’s use of artificial light. The efforts are expected to save the MTA more than $560,000 per year, or an estimated $8.4 million over the contract term.
The array will consist of 2,288 Sharp solar power modules. Each panel is rated at 235 watts. The system, all together, will produce 638,000 kilowatts of power each year, said Pepco spokesman Scott Brown.
“The Maryland Transit Administration constantly looks for ways to maximize energy efficiency in all of our operations,” MTA CEO Ralign T. Wells said in a statement.
The comprehensive updates and green improvements will impact more than 1 million square feet at various Maryland Transit Authority properties, according to a press release on the project. Projects identified for the improvements include local bus, metro subway, light rail and MARC facilities, according to the release.

First Solar Inc., the world’s biggest maker of thin-film photovoltaic panels Edison has signed a contract to sell the electricity from a 250-megawatt Nevada solar farm to Edison International’s (EIX) California utility, the companies announced Wednesday.
"This agreement represents another important milestone toward our goal of grid parity," said Frank De Rosa, First Solar senior vice president in a statement.
Terms of the contract, which requires California regulators’ approval, were not disclosed. The contract is subject to California Public Utilities Commission approval.
The solar power panels will be ground mounted on 2,500 acres of public land in Nevada and will be named the Silver State South.
The project is expected to begin producing electricity as early as 2014 and be fully operational by May 2017. It will create about 300 construction jobs, and the solar panels will be recycled after their useful life-span.

Very soon the 17 villages at the border of Gurdaspur district will have enough solar power to fulfil their electricity needs as a project is on the anvil under the National Solar Mission. Sanjeev Malhan the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) vice-chairman said that the Centrally- sponsored solar project will cost Rs 5.4 crore, while the Centre has released the funds for the project, which would provide solar electricity to 17 Gurdaspur villages, similar solar projects would be launched shortly in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts.

NRG Solar’s Borrego Springs Solar project, said to be the largest solar power, PV site deployed on a 300-acre site in the eastern part of the county is expected to be completed in mid-2012. The project has entered into a 25-year contract with NRG Solar to buy 26MW of solar energy from a proposed facility in San Diego County, CA. It is the fourth SDG&E has signed in the last nine months for solar power, boosting its renewable portfolio by more than 300MW.

A news at Wall Street Journal says –
India is planning to add 20,000 megawatts of solar power to its grid by 2020 as it seeks to step up electricity capacity to meet the demands of a growing economy while developing clean-energy sources. The program will disburse about $20 billion in subsidies to solar power plant developers in coming years. But an Indian regulation that goes into effect in April will bar those firms from importing any foreign-made solar panels—the technology that converts sunlight into electricity.
Foreign solar-panel makers can only get a piece of the action if they set up local manufacturing plants in India through joint ventures, something few U.S. companies have expressed interest in.
