Government Feed-in Tariffs
A feed-in tariff is a Government incentive offering a premium rate paid to producers of renewable energy via their solar power systems. At present there is no National Feed-in Tariff Scheme and the rate paid for a feed-in tariff varies in each State and Territory of Australia. When you have an on-grid or grid connect solar power system and it produces excess electricity, it’s fed back in to the grid, becoming available for use by those around you. This excess electricity attracts a tariff from your State Government and is paid out as per the table below. One thing you should be aware of though is the difference between gross and net feed-in tariffs. GROSS AND NET TARIFFS A Gross feed-in tariff means a household is paid for all the energy they produce, including the energy they use themselves. A Net feed-in tariff means a household is only paid for the excess energy they produce. Whether you are entitled to a gross or net feed-in tariff, it’s a nice way to get something back for going solar.
